Inter-American Driving Permit
A second booklet for driving in the Americas.

When you need it
Who should add the Inter-American permit
Most travelers need the International Driving Permit only. Add the Inter-American permit in these situations.
- Your stay in Brazil is 180 days or longer — USIDA requires the Inter-American permit for that trip.
- You are driving in several countries in the Americas and want both permits in hand.
- A rental company or local authority has told you the Inter-American permit is expected.
- You are relocating or working in the region rather than visiting briefly.
Documents
One reusable digital photo
The Inter-American permit is a separate booklet, so it carries its own photos. Everything else on your application is shared between the two permits.
Shared with your IDP application: passport photo, driver's license — front, driver's license — back, signed certification. You upload those once, whichever permits you choose.
Fees
What it adds to your order
Each permit is priced on its own, and the passport photo service is charged once per booklet. USIDA members pay nothing for photos.
